Richard Dawkins - a Christian in the making?

It always entertains me to see the pent-up hatred in Richard Dawkins. This is not a man who just doesn't believe in God, this is a man who hates God so much that it has taken over his life. In a different culture, a different time, he would exterminate Christians.

This is the kind of soul that may, I hope, one day flip, and see and thankfully accept what it is so violently resisting. It is not possible to carry this degree of bitterness through life for ever.

Oh dear me, he has got on to balanced polymorphism. May he one day travel his own Road to Damascus.

Now there�s a god I can relate to . . . although I believe he�s a she and I�ve found it more righteously rewarding in the long run to worship the miss-sigh-yah who bestows her heavenly love upon me than to worship the god itself. She (the woman, not the god) has made a believer out of me!

I appreciate all of Mr Dawkins' arguments (and scholarship) up to the point where he makes of a complete leap of faith and says ' because I have found the mechanism, therefore I have proved there is no inventor'. Occam's razor says that simple explanations are to be preferred to complex ones, but doesn't actually say they're guaranteed to be true!

As to why Christians voice their opinions, I choose to draw a distinction between those who simply trot out platitudes or use the text to justify their own prejudices, and those who truly believe. To understand the latter I would suggest you compare their position to that of the scientists who believe in global warming. They can see the danger, they can see the solution, many people will nod and agree it sounds like they have a good idea but don't actually want to get involved. The scientists are worried about this world, the Christians are worried about eternity.

Non- believers aren't ruining the believer's eternity. But people who don't believe that global warming is happening, ARE ruining everybody's planet.
