The person we (my partner and I) share a house with is worrying us both. I cannot say much as he may visit these pages again but he has various convictions which as a young woman I find scary. He is MAPPA registered, does this mean his conviction history is recent as in the last ten years????

If your "friend" is M.A.P.P.A. registered then he should be recieving multi agency support to stop him re-offending.Does he visit a probation officer or social worker regularly? If you are worried then you need to contact the police or probation team in your area to voice your concerns.
I agree with Daffy's advice that you should speak to the local probation service (an officer in the public protection team for your local police force) if you've got concerns.

However, in answer to your question, MAPPA registration doesn't necessarily mean that conviction occurred within the last 10 years. For example, someone might have been convicted of a serious offence (such as raping a stranger at knifepoint) fifteen years ago. Having served 12 years in prison, he could have been released 3 years ago and been made the subject of MAPPA registration (in addition to the normal terms of his prison licence and his life-long sex offender's registration).

If he is MAPPA registered and you are worried then either contact your local Police Public Protection Officer or the Social Services. Both will have people who sit on MAPPA meetings. They wont be able to tell you much though. That said they wont leave you in danger either.
