Edna from Emmerdale

I was flicking through programmes last night and came accross an old one of Keeping up Appearances with Mrs Bucket, her sister Rose appeared and I thought I know that face , it turned out to be Edna from Emmerdale ! I couldn't believe how tarty she looked with loads of makeup and a skirt up to her bum! and long blonde hair, she must have been quite a looker in her time.

That's the versatility of the professional actress - take away the make-up and costume, redress, alther the voice, ahd hey presto.

Another good example is Cloris Leachman who plays Nurse Diesel in Mel Brookes' 'Hiigh Anxiety' film - she is a real looker in 'real life' but you wouldn;t think so from this role.

Older readers may remeber "Olive" from "On the Buses" (played by Anna Karen). Although I don't watch it, I believe Anna is now in Eastenders.

In "On the Buses" she played the frumpy sister of star Reg Varney (who played Stan Butler) and her part was deliciously over the top, portraying her plain features (and some would say downright ugliness).

Before taking up acting Anna was a striptease dancer in London's West End.

I cant understand this as I checked it on the web but then when I was watching Keep up Appearances yesteday, looking at the credits, it said Rose was played by Mary Miller

Two actresses have played the character of Rose. Shirley Stelfox was in the first series, and Mary Miller did it from the second series onwards.
