Spider Nevai
5 Answers
I was on the pill and when I came off of it I started getting red marks on my upper arms and chest, I went to the doctors about it and she said it was spider nevai (think ive spelt it right?) She said it is to do with the liver and done a blood test to check my liver and all was fine, I have read about it on the net and it does say that it can occur from pregnancy and contraceptive pills and alcoholism which I definately dont do!, I know it sounds silly, but I went into tescos this morning and someone thought they were insect bites, now it has made me worry about it again, I just would like to here from other women that have had it/got it and get some reassurance that all is ok

I assume that indeed your skin lesions are spider naevi, which are small non malignant abnormalities of blood vessels. Seen in normal healthy people, off hand about 1.4 healthy people have them. MAY be associated with liver disease, but certainly associated with changes in oestradiol/testosterone levels in the blood inwhich would have occured when you cam off the pill. Will they go away? I have no idea.

Hi Unhappy,
About 20% of people have at least one spider naevus. Apart from alcohol consumption and liver disease, the most common cause is disturbed oestrogen levels, usually caused by a) coming off the pill, b) becoming pregnant.
When the condition is associated with coming off the pill, it usually resolves itself in about 6 months when your hormone levels get back to normal.
In the meantime, try taking an Omega 3 oil supplement. This will help your ovaries begin to produce their own oestrogen which will clear the marks on your skin quicker.
Also, try to eat a bit more oily fish. Tuna, salmon, mackerel etc.
Best of luck!

ooohhh try googling URTICARIA its a skin condition that just happens for no apparent reason really and i have it its red dots that look like bites and they are horrendous when im too warm or too cold etc dr couldnt diagnos it with me and ended up at skin clinic to find out what it was. it can last for wks mths or years ive had mine on and off for the last nearly 3 yrs, best thing to clear it short term is a prescription antihistamine as the dots are allergic reaction to everything. hope this helps
