Having grown our own veg in our garden for 4 years, ( garlic, runner beans, broad beans, rhubarb, tomatoes, potatoes, raspberries etc, I would like to expand to an allotment. Tonight I typed in the name of our local parish council and Googled it. Their last post was 2002. So, how do I contact them, or who in the district council do I contact, what sort of waiting list should I expect, and generally any tips

go to the allotment you would like to get a plot in and look on any notice board for contact details or ask someone there for details of who to contact. I did this recently and got one within two weeks but I have heard some waiting lists are much longer.

Thanx Hawkwalk, but there is no notice board near the allotments, but I'll keep watching the parish board by the bus stop!!
Look on your council tax bill. It will tell you who your local authority is and they probably have a website. If you contact the Leisure or Environment Department they may be able to point you in the right direction.
I just got my allotment after waiting 1.5 years, i went to the site and asked to speak to one of the commitee members and put my name down with them and my contact details, then kept going back every two months and checking if i had moved up the list
