We are departing from terminal 1, on saturday morning, flight is at 9.30a.m. How long should I allow to go through passport control & security. We would like to have breakfast with the person taking us to the airport before going through these controls and after checking in.

Also, does anyone know how long it takes to get from the motorway to the terminal? Coming from SE London.

Can anyone help/advise? Thanks for any help.

they usually require you to check in 2-3 hours before take-off (have a look at your documents, or your airline's website). 3 hours should leave you time to have a meal and go through security, but do check that the X-ray queues aren't too long.
PS from motorway (M4) 15-25 minutes including parking, but check traffic reports beforehand just in case of accidents.
at that time of the day,it will only take you 10 mins to get from the m4 into term 1 car park.there is not a lot of choice to eat landside.

Thanks, we were aiming at getting there for 7 a.m., but I was just concerned as to what the xray/security queues would be like as we have never flown from Heathrow.
If your destination is within Europe you should check in 2 hours before departure, if it's long haul check in time is 3 hours beforehand
