Could some kind person explain to me how does a gas or kerosine powered refrigerator work. (i.e...why does heating create freezing..?)

It doesn't. A fridge works by compressing and expanding a gas (used to be freon, but ther are more environmentally friendly alternatives now). This causes an exchange of heat between the inside and outside of the fridge. The compressor is powered by a motor. In most cases the motor is electric, but as you know, you can also get motors that run on petrol, butane, propane, whatever...
