Missing Cat

Hi peeps, does anyone have any stories of how cats they have had have gone missing for long time and then turned up completely unscathed as if nothing has happened?

The last time I saw my six year old tabby, Diego, was Saturday afternoon, then Saturday night we had a bbq and so I wasn't surprised that he didn't come home as he doesn't really like being around other people. However, he's still not home and that has been almost a week now. The longest he has gone for before was about 3 days but now I feel like a crappy cat-mum, and my other two kitties are barely eating - I am sure they know something I don't. My hubby is convinced the cat is being cared for elsewhere by some lonely old lady, but I think he's just trying to make me feel better. I wish I knew that he was ok :-(

we had a cat which adopted us, he lived up the road, and his owners just did not seem to care about him.
any way we looked after him fed him bathed him and spoilt him rotten.

He disappeared in the middle of the summer a couple of years ago, no wait it would 5/6 now, any way i gave him up for dead. And cryed for him and everything.

One evening I got home and my sister had a huge grin on her face and she said 'stand by the back door and call marmalade' being more than a little sceptical I did it and lo and behold el numpty was sat on the gate post at the bottom of the garden. Like he had never been away.
It turned out he had been run over and had had to spend 6 weeks confined in his proper owners kitchen.

He has now been dead for almost 2 years but it only feels like yesterday he was sat on my lap asleep.

good luck with your cat have you rung around the vets homeless shelter etc?

Don't feel bad or give up hope nat, cats go missing for days, weeks, months!

Have you advertised or made printed flyers to put through neighbour's doors? It worked for one local lady.
Earlier this yr, after dark when they like to prowl, I spotted a cat in my garden that I thought could be the one someone had desperately been looking for for a week. I rang the lady but by the time she arrived there was no sign of the cat. She decided to have a walk around the local streets calling her name...and yes, she heard her meowing & it was a happy ending!

My sister's cat went missing for over a month after she'd been on holiday & someone had been coming in to feed him. He strolled back in, absolutely fine.

Awww, thanks everyone.

I am going to make up fliers and things tomorrow as I have given myself (and him!) one week before I start doing that, although I have been going round the local area calling him - he's a very vocal cat so if he was stuck in someone's garage or shed they would definitely know about it as he howls like nothing you've heard before. He's a very large breed so I am not too worried that he has been caught by a dog or anything, and he's quite timid and doesn't tend to go near roads so I would be surprised if he has been hit by a car as he doesn't tend to venture far. I shall keep everything crossed anyhoo x

They can be very solitary creatures if hurt or injured, will hide themselves away and get themselves better.

One of ours went missing for days once and eventually someone from down the road came round as he had heard we had a missing cat, he'd been sat up a tree for days as the muppet climbed up and couldn't get down.

Ps, you've not recently moved have you as some can try and find their way back to their old stalking ground.

ask neighbours to check garages and sheds, he may be locked in. Especially on a saturday when people are gardening and then lock up and back to work all week.

Walk round after it is dark and call him when everything is quiet so you hear better.

I have a 2 year old neutered male (ASBO) who regularly clears off from anything from a few hours to a week or so. He seems to like putting me through as much stress and worry as possible. 9 times out of 10 he comes back as if nothing has happened (although on 2 occasions it has cost me a small fortune at the vets since he manages to get himself into minor but costly scrapes).

A friend of mine sent her cats to live with another friend when she split with her husband. The boy cat escaped one day and disappeared. Despite them trawling the estate for WEEKS they never found him. About 8 months later she got a phonecall from the local airbase to say that they think they had seen him. Off she went, called and he rocked up. Skinny, bedraggled but pleased to see her nonetheless.

Please try not to worry about him - sometimes they disappear and "do their own thing" - remember, you are just staff running their hotel and they kind of like to come and go as they please!!!

You're all making me feel much much better - I went out yesterday evening calling him and driving round the houses behind us to see if he had gone round there, we've mentioned it to the neighbours but I'd be surprised if he is shut in a shed locally as he is so loud we would definitely hear him at night. In fact people in the next town would probably hear him :-) I also called the vets to let them know and our local community wardens, just in case he has been run over or something and they see him on their patrols they can contact me.

He is probably just punishing me for daring to have people round last week that might have interrupted his evening, perhaps somebody was sat on his chair and he is making me suffer for it.
