Is it possible to get compensation for loss of earnings & distress from CRB?
4 Answers
Hello. I have been waiting for more than three months for my enhanced CRB check to be carried out. This is causing me financial hardship and much distress. I have lost thousands in wages and am in danger of losing my home. Am I entitled to compensation?

I have never had so much as a caution. I understand that it is done to protect the vulnerable, but the website claims that 100% of claims will be processed within 60 days. I do understand the need to be thorough, but delays like this mean that those same vulnerable people are not able to access services that they need, due to staff shortages.
in a word - no. it is a statutory procedure and will get done when it gets done. i had to wait 2 months for mine and i only think you have redress to complain if they get something wrong on the check - i.e. call you a murderer when you are plainly not, for example. it is done to protect the people you will be working with and is necesary for certain jobs - the employer will be aware of the pitfalls of requesting this information and you will have to think of another way of earning money until it comes through if you are that broke. i continued to work in my previous job until my check was completed and managed not to lose any income.
those type of jobs are offered subject to CRB checks being ok and do normally take 8 or so weeks unless change of name addresses etc then can take longer so there would be no come back at all - if there is nothing on it you shouldnt feel distressed and should try and temp somewhere else whilst waiting - once the organisation has sent it off it is out of their hands apart from chasing it up on the phone
