And feeling your defence is not ready is not quite enough (otherwise nothing would ever get dealt with). You need a really really good reason - such as having requested a medical report the doctor is unable to comply with the time limits; or an essential witness has been taken ill. Judges will not just adjourn cases willy nilly.
