Claiming on Home/Posessions Insurance

Can anyone tell me what the process of claiming on contents insurance involves? I have a �600 bill for damage to landloards property from a fire and my contents insurance says it covers damage to landlords property up to �5000. What kind of procedures will I have to go through/what kind of documentation and evidence will I require to make a claim? I am calling the insurance company tomorrow but just wanted to get a bit of a heads up. Cheers
