I totally agree with you return to the victorian regime of face masks so no one knows anyone else enforce hard labour, maybe use the tredmills to power the prison? Its being green init?
Or use the crims to sort through rubbish to help with recycling.
Like the idea of selling assets so when they do come out they are made to start afresh!
I think the streets are so full of crime it is untrue at it is about time we got them back to being safe places to be.

Oh do just open your damned eyes... have you ever even been in a prison?
How the hell do you propose to 'rehabilitate' anyone whose spent years in an institution such as you've just described???
If you're a bloodthirsty mindless gallows knitter, then just come out and own up to it, that's fair enough, but please don't patronise us by pretending that you're interested in rehabilitation.

noknowledge... yes I have been to prison, for a considerable time as well, and thus know a great many peole who have been, and from experience, if you want to guarantee that there will be a high rate of reoffending amongst, particularly young prisoners, then make it as hard a possible whilst they're in there.
Rehaabilitation is the ONLY way to go to prevent reoffending, all this ' the harder the better, make the b4astards suffer' really doesnt work, and for anyone whose interested, prison is not a 'holiday camp', it's soul destroying, isolating, lonely and reduces you to not caring about anyone or anything... which is why upon release so many people want to make the society who somtiems led them there suffer as much as possible.
If you put some lad whose made an error of judement and committed some petty crime injali with people who really should be there, by the time he comes out he'll be not far off like them. And that is a FACT.

There is another way of looking at it, once you've reached the point of going to jail maybe (for many) it's too late.
Prison works we're locking up more juveniles than ever before and according to statistics youth crime is falling.
When you put a criminal in prison people who may be about to formulate offending behaviours will stop and take note.
If one man makes a decision and ends up in jail (that's his responsibility and his perogative) if by locking him up five men change the way they live there lives is that not success?

Goodness gracious what a dreadful load of carmudgeons you are. Prison and national service indeed. Since when did fighting Might with Counter-might work?
Far better still, do what someone told me they do in Germany. All teens must do a years real community work before going on to college or employment. Real community work ie No cleaning graffiti or clearing rubbish from under hedges like our crims get on 'community service'.
Real work like working in a nursing home or like a mini apprenticeship. German students I've talked to say it gives them a sense of worth, that they have something to contribute.

Obnoxious, I am not interested in what you did, whatever you did if you were guilty then you did the crime and did the time, your punishment and rehabilitation is complete , you don't want to go back then voalahh! sucess!! I am trying to open up a debate on why the hell should the majority of older law abiding citizens have to be live in fear of going out at night with the possibility of getting attacked, mugged stabbed and generally abused?? Its not on , the current system is not working the prisons are full so lets build more , and change the model to how we treat them , they should not be allowed to pump iron get stronger , take steroids, that just makes them stronger and uncontrollable , get them grafting , prison should not be a nice place , strip them of there assets and make them pay for what they have 24 hour security , a bed, good food and tv, (some ensuite) and explain please why in a high security prison that drugs manage to get in ?? zero tolerance all round please , step off the good side and pay the price , and No I haven't been to prison , Don't intend to but if I did offend I would get my just deserts by having my freedom taken off me . Am I the only one that thinks this way or am i wrong in my thoughts ??
My punishment I got in prison and was well on my way to re-offending again, this time with some considerable flair too I might add, when my rehabilitation came from someone outside of prison. so prison a success? no it was a dismal failure and only served to dehumanise me further and turn me into an even more unpleasant individual. Since then I have had the opportunity to consider and observe, and I had used to mentor young offenders, which has led me to the conclusions that I have reached.
Far better to invest time, money and care into society in general to prevent offending in the first place. No-one starts out in life thinking 'I know, I aspire to spend half my adult life in jail!'.
Everyoine deserves to feel safe on the streets, of course they do, we just differ in our opinions as to how to make it so.

Thank you obnoxious for the reply , was not what I was expecting , look , its great that you have come out the other side, and you have given your thoughts on what worked for you , thats brill, you have far more expeiance of what the prison thing is like , unlike me who only see's the potrayal on the telly whilst couped up in my semi with 2.2 children and wife (and dog) by my side, what exactly is going to work then?? i can just think back and feel that the stopping of authority in schools and caning was certainly a trigger point , it appears very few youngsters have a fear of elders and they do not respect what society expects from them , we are on a slippy slope, in the famous words of Frazer from Dads army , " we're doomed " ....
