For my grannies 80th, we took her out for a slap up family lunch and then hired a small boat for the afternoon and took her on a cruise around Rutland Water. (It was the same year as the Queen's 80th, so we reckoned if it was good enough for Her Majesty, it was good enough for our Nan - not that we could stretch to the RY Britannia!)

Oh the balloon flight is a brilliant idea, if she is quite adventurous! Can you also maybe get hold of a few pics of her "through the ages" and make a collage? that's always lovely.
In addition, you could take her for a "day of fun", maybe a slap up lunch, then a bit of shopping, then theatre or a movie? Maybe bingo if she likes that?

My mum is 80 this year and there's nothing she wants. We have 'adopted' her an orang utan at Monkey World in Dorset and on her birthday at the end of the month we are taking her down there for the day followed by dinner somewhere. I am also planning to book her and me into a hotel for the night down there too.
