I am not sure if you think deleting their username will make it faster because it wont.

You do not say what version of Windows you are on, but before you delete their username make sure you are an administrator.

If they are the only administrator and you delete their username then you will not be able to do many administrastor tasks in the future (like install software).

In fact rather than deleting their username I would perhaps rename it. You may find (for some reason or another) you need it in the future and if you delete it you may regret it.

You can add, delete and rename user names in the Windows control panel. See User Accounts in XP (not sure what it is called in Vista).
About the only thing you can really do to speed up a laptop is to add more memory. That is likely to give you the biggest increase in performance for the least cost and hassle.

There are small things you can do to speed up a laptop (defragment the disk for example) but they will only give you a very small increase in performance (you will probably hardly notice).

Do you know the specifications of the machine. It would help us if we knew the CPU model, the amount of memory, the hard disk size, and the version of Windows.

The laptop make and model number may help.

There is an option called "System Information" in Windows XP that gives your the hardware details. There is a similar option on Windows Vista if you are on that.
Very basic check.
Have you got anti-virus, and if so is it up to date, and have you run it?
On a similar theme, have you got anti-spyware, is it up to date and have you run it?
Is it possible that the disk is approaching full? That can make a pc run slow also.
