i dont understand why Beijing was ever selected to host the 2008 Olyimpics especially when everyone seems to be on their case.
Yes they do have a bit of a repretation of many things esp the Tibet stories, but there is no freedom of speech in China, you have to becareful what you say there. but im sure it isnt that bad, is it??
they have done well so far until i heard about a British Reporter got arested for being a reporter lol quite funny that.
Also i was quite impressed with the Ceremony until i found out parts of the FireWorks were PRERECORDED and the little girl who sang mimmed, but it wasnt even her singing it. it was by another girl, apparantly she wasnt pretty enough. this is getting ridiculas :P

As for the story with the little girl i think it's disgusting, how must that wee girl be feeling? and what sort of message does that send out to the youngsters in China?
I think both girls are adorable, but i would have much rathered it was the one that could sing that had actually preformed.

i agree with you Jafi, although China has always been a powerful country, i think they are already prepared for Anything, thats why they dont like journalist etc just incase their secrect gets exposed. They are very clever people!
i was quite disgusted too about the little girl! what are they ashamed off?? i thought she was pretty and cute little girl ! does it matter what she looked like? ...shes a talented little one and its ashame she didnt get the chance to show off her talent to millions of people!

There are also stories of Chinese rent-a-crowds. Chinese are being brought in by the bus load to fill what would be empty seats.
One BBC reporter has commented that they love China but they don't love sport. The fans are watching the scoreboards and cheering when China, or a Chinese athlete, gets a point. They have to do this because they don't understand the sport.

What happened with that kid was a disgrace, they were both lovely looking kids, and as for the protests as Norman said, it's our turn next...
Fathers for Justice, Greenpeace, climate change, stop the war, stop the whaling etc they're all gonna be there.
Tranmere you can say what you like about China, I've been there (going back in a few weeks) and was very impressed. Murder is rare in China especially against tourists/foreigners, no CCTV (unless you count state television, look it up), it's clean, high levels of literacy, numeracy, good schooling (overall) English is being taught in all state schools, more people graduate university from China than any other country.
I'm not saying China's perfect (far from it) but it's come one hell of a long way in one hell of a short time you need to remember it's less than 30 years since the Sino/Viet war (which China lost).
I can walk along the banks of the Yong Jen with my Chinese girl friend and people say hello, I can walk down Church Street to the tune of "slitty eyes" and "sweet and sour pork" .
Whether you like it or not we're falling behind look at it this way the 19th century belonged to Britain, the 20th century belonged to America, the 21st century belongs to China.....
