Are these new Low Energy Light Bulbs going to take over from the 'normal' light bubs we use now? Does this mean we won't be able to buy and use the old ones, or does it mean the Powers that Be would 'rather' we use the Low Energy ones. Will we still be able to buy and use our 'old' ones ??

saw a thing on the news recently saying that one of the big makers (possibly phillips) were stopping production shortly

You will probably see a roll reversal in a few years. The energy bulbs will very cheap and the incandescent one dear because of the reduced demand.

As LEDs take over from incandescent bulbs in places where they are used as indicators (traffic lights etc) they will become as scarce as hen's teeths.

I might just follow the example of your mum - old or new.

You will soon be charged for the safe disposal of the fluorescent type as they contain mercury.

Low energy light bulbs are fine but the light output isnt suitable in some decorative fittings such as cut glass or crystall chandeliers.

A better alternative is the new halogen ranges.
