pain in eyes

Why do your eyes hurt when you wake up, so that al you can manage to start with is to open one eye and gradually open the other? I used to think it was the light but realise it even happens in the dark. I did wonder if it was due to dehydration but I need to know the correct answer.

i use eye drops from boots. it helps a lot

My eyes are fine after about 15 secs so don't need eye drops. I'm curious, medically, what's going on?

oh ok i dont know then. i wear contact lenses so probably completely different.

You may need to see a doctor. My eyes work fine at any time of day or night, and never 'hurt'.
