jumpping a red light

driving light was on amber as i drove throw it it went red i couldnt of stopped as i would have put my van sideways . there was a camera on the set of lights . what am i looking at getting fine??????points?????

Providing that you weren't speeding, I would perhaps point out to the council the danger of the lights whilst paying the fine.

I pass some on my way to work, where the speed limit is 70mph. If I brake when I see the lights go to amber, then it's really dangerous as I struggle to stop at the line, and risk the car behind shunting me. If I keep my foot down, the lights will be red when I pass the line.

They need to change the sequence and allow moving vehicules enough time to stop.

Silly me I always thought that when approaching traffic lights you adjust your speed accordingly.

The speed limit is merely the maximum allowable by law in any circumstance. The fastest speed at which you should drive is determined by all the prevailing circumstances, weather, road conditions, volume of traffic etc. I would suggest that if there are traffic lights on a road then you should not be driving at 70mph, particularly as by your own admission, you are familiar with the stretch of road and the hazard the lights present. The responsibility for stopping on the amber is with the driver and there is no possible defence against crossing a red light. I live in Milton Keynes and am sick fed up of seeing the lights turning green for me, only to find some idiot still carving their way across the junction.

b o l l o c k s !! as far as im concerned when you are approaching any traffic signal, traffic lights, junctions, give ways etc you should have it about you that the circumstances on approach to these may change ie beware that the traffic lights COULD change therefore adjust your speed accordingly in the need to stop and obey them. ignorance is not an excuse, any reasonably experienced driver would think along these lines in my opinion
