I haven't used gas for 2 weeks. That's no cooker, no fire, no central heating, no tap hot water. I gave in today to cook a quorn burger. Just thought I'd let you know.

Not sure candles would cook but I may be using them when I get obsessed with the price of electric too and turn off the lights. Have asked my clever nephew to make me a wind up TV and PC or pedal power. And although I do have an electric shower I may go swimming more often and take liberty of the showers there :-)

Well at least you can buy wind-up radios and torches, and you just need to invest in an Arctic sleeping bag for when the nights turn cold.
Barbecue when you can, or if you haven't got a garden, leave a slow cooker over the pilot light - stews used to last for ages in the old days. Folk used to just keep topping them up.
There! not too bad after all, is it?
