butter on bruises?

my parents (in their late 40s) tell me that their parents used to rub butter onto bruises to make them better

why???

i would just go and buy Arnica from a chemist.  Plastic Surgeons recommend it to reduce bruising

Im in my mid 50's and my mum used to massage butter  onto our bruises. Dont ask me why as I could'nt tell you bit it always worked MD.

My i remember when we were little (im 19) my sister bumped her head on a few occasions in the same place, on her forehead. My granda would always cover the bump, which was the size of an egg, with butter. I still dont know why!

the only problem with being brought up with this odd theory, as I was, is that it put me off butter for life, not a bad thing really.  It does work and my poor kids are subjected to it too.

Although I think Arnica does just as well too.
