He needs to get to know you and trust you as well. He will eat when he is hungry! Cats can be people animals too! We have always taken our cats out and about in the car visiting and they are really happy as long as we are with them and quite enjoy different surroundings.
So glad he has now 'performed'!
Agree with most of those above. There is no quick. A cat can take anywhere between 2 and 6 weeks to settle in to its new surroundings.
My cats as soons as they were let out of their basket hid behind a kitchen cupboard for two days before even coming out! They soon realised that they were hungry and ventured out in the dark hours to get their food. After a few days they started exploring (and markng) the whole house without us touching or picking them up, they started to come to us - especially if the food bowl was empty! After 3 weeks we could let them out of the house.
Keep the cat in doors, but let it wander (in so far as you will accept) and explore it's surroundings, you will find that it will soon come to you for attention (although some cats hate this) and soon it will begin to eat normally.
