Hi homerbart.
Cut your nails short-ish (wherever is comfortable) and give yourself a home manicure. Soak, file with a soft emery board if necessary - no metal nail files.
Massage almond oil into the nails and cuticles and leave it to soak in (about an hour). Use a non-acetone nail polish remover to clean the nail and put on a base coat. Top up the base coat if it chips and only take it off - with a non-acetone remover - once a week to start the whole process again.
Wear rubber gloves when washing up or cleaning windows etc. (anything where your hands are in water). Rub almond oil into the cuticles of your nails each night. If you can stand it wear moisturising gloves overnight a couple of times a week.
If a nail breaks, shape and file it smooth with a soft emery board and add a layer of base coat until it's time to re-do your manicure.
It sounds like a lot of effort but it's not really and, although it'll take about 8 - 10 months, if you keep it up it'll make a difference.
