trying to find a book from when i was little

when i was little, I friend gave me a book which had around 3 short stories in. One of which was about some children who found a little baby in a basket...but he would only live for a year and a day...i thought it was 'the foundling' or 'the findling' or 'a year and a day'. any ideas???
