hi i have a peugot 306, now and again it keeps reving on it's on and cuts out any ideas??

is it diesel? if it is and its very high mileage then you could have worn rings causing the engine to "run up" on its own oil.
if it is this its engine rebuild time!
If it is petrol then its not this problem.
