i am running aol 9.0 broadband and when i turn my pc on it automatically loads and connects to aol.  However once loaded an internet explorer 'error cannot find page' error screen appears.  i have to close this each time.

It is obviously trying to work offline using explorer not aol.  cannot get rid of it.  any ideas

cheers

Click Start, Programs and then "Startup" and see if there's a shortcut to IE (internet explorer) in there.
Failing that, click Start, Run and type
msconfig
and have a look at the startup tab. This is a bit more technical but you might see IE or something similar in there.

Does IE have a website address displayed in the address bar when you get this error page?

Question Author

jusr rebooted and it says

error: can't find website web

unknown host (error 500)

http://web

It was a work machine which i brought and the standard web was http:\\web for intranet.  its just trying to get rid of this ****** now

In addition if you want to use IE and not the AOL software simply go to IE>TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>CONNECTIONS. In there type www.aol.com -- Then click SETTINGS and tick AUTOMATICALLY DETECT SETTINGS, and type your AOL username and password at the bottom finally OK it.

Don't worry it say's dial-up on the last bit, this will still work with an ADSL connection.
