Am I being paranoid?

Last night I got a call on my mobile from an American-spoken woman purporting to be from PPP saying that I had "won" �250 worth of medical care for the next 12 months. Now I do a fair amount of comping (although I don't remember this one in particular as it wouldn't be of much interest to me) so I went along with it. After a long spiel lasting several minutes she started trying to sell me additional health insurance for �9 odd a month. I said I wasn't interested as I'm named on my husband's private health insurance. Undeterred she then tried to get my bank details so that they could instigate a direct debit should I accept this policy and that they would not implement it without specific instructions from me. I replied that I never ever give out bank details over the phone but she was very persistent but I stood my ground. I feel really sorry that some elderly people might be subjected to this kind of selling or is it maybe something even more sinister. Has anybody on here had a similar experience?

I let these people go through their spiel then say sorry, I've already got whatever they are selling and hang up.

As soon as anybody introduces what company there from and i know there gonna start trying to sell me anything...I hang up, cant be ars*d to sit listening to there drivel!

Hi scotgal , yes I have had similar calls , one particular one was a woman who said I had won a mobility scooter ....
......I haven't even entered a comp for one so that's a minor miracle in itself ........she then wanted my bank details and I stressed I would not give them and why would I need to if I had won it. She then tried to get my details again saying I could have any model on a monthly payment via direct debit and it would be at their specil discount price ......oh yeh ........

email PPP and complain, youll soon find out if its them or a scam!

but dont give them any details other than your email address or they may add you to their calling lists

Yes cazzz I often do that but I was curious to see how far she would go to try and wheedle my details off me. As I said above I wonder how many elderly people are subjected to the same nonsense. I remember my elderly father being subjected to a salesman trying to sell him an adjustable bed for 4 hours before the lady whose dog he was looking after appeared and gave the salesman short shrift before phoning his company and giving them a piece of her mind too!
