Is it a mantis? The lift up protective covers would suggest a beetle of some type. An ugly creature by anyone's standards.
Have googled for a while and can't find anything remotely resembling it. However....... I have just learned that you can buy insects enmasse in Pakistan for consumption. Bon appetit.
