What does this actually mean where did it come form and whats the song about the original

the song is about nothing !

it makes more sense now in these times of 'aids' ie

mama i just killed a man,put my gun against his head,pulled my trigger now hes dead'

Freddie Mercury himself had said more than once the song really wasn't about anything.  He showed up at the studio with it one day, playing it at the piano, then paused and announced "Here, darlings, is where the opera section comes in!"  The rest of the band (and producer Roy Thomas Baker) thought he was mad, but of course the song went on to be a huge hit.
