Weird children's books!

I'm trying to find the names of a few books i used to read as a child, this is the best i can describe them;

The first involves a young girl who lives on the other side of the walls of a scary looking house, there's rumours about the old man that lives there and she's warned that she shouldn't go in there, however her ball goes over the wall and she has to get it back...the rest of my memory of it is hazy but i think she befriends the old man and he's nice in the end.

The second involves witch and her cat, it described her house and for some reason the cat changes colour, I have a feeling the witches name is meg?!

And finally, the last book is about a princess who acts like a bloke, killing the witches that are trying to kill her, killing a dragon and ultimately rescuing a prince herself, I remember the illustrations being really original in this one.

Please help, even if you don't know them all!

The last one sounds like 'The Tough Princess'. We've an old copy of this and my 2 wee girls adore it.

Now you've got me racking my brains about the witch one. I know the one you mean I just can't think of the name of it - I seem to remember that everything in the witch's house is black and she keeps tripping over the cat, so she tries changing the colour of the house several times, but each time she doesn't like the colour so in the end changes the colour of the cat and everything else in thehouse back to black.

i might be thinking of a different book but i seem to remember the one about the young girl involves the mans dog getting pregnant then him drowning the puppies for some reason?? i cant remember the name of the book but it might help jog someone elses memory.

Winnie the Witch! I love that book. She keeps tripping over the black cat as she can't see him, so she dyes him green and he gets lost in the grass and she trips over him again, then she dyes him multi coloured and he gets lost amongst some birds, so she changes the colour of her house so it's 'normal' and colourful and she can finally find her black cat
