I agree Ethel.
Even in a relationship, you can go through phases when you just don't feel like it.
So can't some people just never feel like it, and never feel the need or desire for any sexual relationship.
I agree that the body will, from time to time, demand some sort of physical relief, but that doesn't have to be accompanied by the urge to invole another person of either sex.

People who say they are asexual such as Stephen Fry often have their reasons for just not wanting to admit to being gay. Stephen Fry agrees with this- he was always gay but just not ready to be "out". Kenneth Williams was gay, not asexual. Some people prefer to just stay single and not have sex, but they may be straight or gay, genetically.

everton - The Pope is merely celibate as dictated to by his position. It doesn't mean that he has no feeling in that department! However I'm sure he must feel urges, and may have occasionally 'batted one out' so to speak....followed by guilt of course. (You can tell I'm not a Catholic)
I did have a cousin, who we believed was asexual .... no hint of a girlfriend (or a boyfriend) and no interest, according to his parents. He moved to America with work and the suddenly announced he was getting married. So there you go!
