I am going to be organising a few parties over the next month or so for a local group of veggies and would like some ideas for food stuffs to make or take - we are going to be entertaining in each others houses, so the food has to be transportable and eaten cold. Savoury (no meat or fish please) and sweet dish recipes would be most appreciated. I've made a list of the usual dishes - quiches, pastries etc but have sort of run out of ideas..... thanks !

Thank you puddicat.... I hope she will see this post !

messyjessy - are those sausages and burgers etc ok to eat cold ? I don't fancy eating a cold onion bhaji !

We will each be cooking a few dishes and taking it to the *party place* and won't be eating the food until about an hour has passed (games get played and lots of happy chats happen before we are dive into the food...) so it's got to be ok to eat cold (it's all covered over and in really hot (hahahahaha) weather it'll be put in the fridge if need be, but it's not fair to expect the host to have to cook anything at the last minute.
Reporter she will see this thread she is the scourge of the food section, no she is a great help!!!!
oh sry
try sum veggie meat and sum salad and make sum tortilla wraps best eaten cold
Why does it have to be cold as you can
heat up a veggie curry ..or lasagne ...
or do they not have a micro or oven ??
soft tortilla wraps are a good idea and these I make go down very well.

Soft tortilla wraps
Fresh supermarket tomato Salsa from the chilled dept
Lancashire or feta cheese
Salad leaves (I'd go for a rocket and spinach mix)
Onion
Red pepper

Put all ingredients in (tiny bit of cheese), wrap and cut in half. Delicious

For a cold sweet I make this which is sooo good.
Make or buy some pancakes
spread a small amount of jam on one side
mix some sliced banana with either thick custard or cream or both :-) then put in in a line on the panckake, roll up and cut in half or in ismaller segments to be more decorative.
Delicious

Carrot cake is always popular too.
Herb and mushroom pate's are available from Holland and Barrat.
Quorn bitesize scotch eggs are in supermarkets now, with quorn porkless pie, quorn ham/chicken style slices for sandwiches and Couldron do some great pate's also. Bowles of pasta with mayo and peppers & sweetcorn. Olives, rice etc.. oooo can I come.

Yes, everyone does have an oven, we just don't want the host to have to do extra work - s/he will have to do other stuff so we are trying to keep it simple. Also some on some of the parties, if the weather is nice enough, we will be doing picnics (I know this is wishful thinking !)

Hey thanks Boogiewoogie - some great ideas there !
Question Author
Thanks sense4all - there's loads of good stuff there....

Curried potato salad with lentils (now that sounds different !)
Tabouleh (I'd not thought of that one....)
There are some lovely cold pasta dishes....

OK... I'm off to peek further at these sites... if I am gone for hours, can somebody please give me a shout so I remember to actually do something off the pc today heyhey...
