Well, was she stupid or what??!! Was she protecting the children from their perverted father or protecting them from the media & potential bullying? Does the fact that daddy has downloaded "vile horrid" kiddie porn for 5 years actually make him a bad father? What were either of them thinking of, him continuing to bathe with the kids & have the kids in his bed after all that had happened? What should she have done (what could she have done?)All I KNOW is that I would not have been so understanding towards him if I were in his shoes. I think I would have battered the selfish ******* when he turnerd round to me & asked "what are you (YOU??!!) doing to our family?

Hmmm. I can understand why she was protecting him from the media, I think. At the end of the day, he is someone she fell in love with and I should imagine it's difficult to close that protective instinct toward him.

Behind closed doors, he most certainly would not be bathing my children or being left alone with them. My opinion was they were too old to be sleeping with a parent anyway.

I don't know, it's easy to sit here and say "I'd do this, that or the next thing", but until you're living through it, it's difficult to say exactly how one would react.

oh I agree, Lakitu, it's easy to say what you would do unless you were in that position - that's why I haven't gone too overboard with the condemnation. But, my tolerance/understanding would not be on the same level as Fiona's that is a fact.
His family also underplayed the whole thing, but like you say, if you love someone you don't want to think the worst of them.
I still think I would have kicked him out long before she did.

I was shocked at the bathing bit, I mean the eldest daughter was what?? 13, I did not catch her age.

Agreed, I don't think I'd have been as tolerant either. Fiona was still kissing and hugging him. Sitting here thinking about being in the situ, it turns my stomach to think of touching him never mind kissing him, but again it's difficult to really say how I'd feel.

I guess the writers wanted to give the viewer a feel for what it's truly like to be in the situation, that we are not automatically going to react in the extreme negative. Perhaps they went a little too far to the other extreme - and also neglected to bring family members more to the forefront of the story as they are integreal IMO.

There are men who do this and get caught on a daily basis, I'd place money on there are wives out there who live in permanent denial about it for whatever reason and still with the man.

You'd never really be able to trust him to be alone with your kids or grandkids again would you - no matter how much you deny it happened, surely there would be a deep down nag?

I thought the kids' ages were odd for the parents talking about bathing and sleeping in the same bed too, funnygirl. Very odd indeed.

I wonder what those men who are in that situation right now in real life were sitting thinking when that was on.

I bet they were 100% on the side of the husband, hoped that if they got 'caught' their wives & families would be so understanding.

I can almost imagine them thinking "see, it's quite acceptable to download these images - just natural male curiosity....."

That's just it, they think they're perfectly normal and can't understand the rest of us for not thinking likewise. I can't begin to imagine how I would feel in her situation, my gut feeling is that he would have the nearest kitchen knife in his back.

Hard Talk on BBC1 last night was discussing this. The presenter asked the the guest (I don't know who he was) what happens if we, the general web surfer, just so happens to stumble across those types of sites. You know how it is, you google something and if you haven't got parental filters on, you can get the odd porn site.

The guest said it's virtually impossible to 'just stumble across it'. The men they catch are deliberately searching the likes of "child rape" or the likes.

Now, I don't know very much about how Google works, but can't they also help eliminate this type of thing by just not carrying this type of search result? Does it work like that?

What about the people who own the servers these sites are hosting??

I thought it was brilliant casting, and it sparked a lot of debate, quite rightly. Gina McKee's expressionless face throughout was a joy. Wonder if the timing was deliberate- to stop us feeling so sad about Thomas More losing his head in The Tudors on Friday?
Sorry to be flippant, I appreciate it's an important subject. To get back to the timing- it was perfect for whipping up more public outrage re GG.
