Just keep rying at jobs that interest you, do your travelling, and remember this is all experience and can all be cited in the appropriate way on your CV.
It depends what area you want to move into really. The best thing to in IT in my own experience is to try and build up a portfolio of sorts. You need to show what you can do, e.g if you're interested in developing web apps you need to make some you can show potential employers!
Also there are often sites dedicated solely to finding jobs in IT, for example WiredSussex (but obviously you need to find one relevant to your own area).
You could also try and get some work experience at a company you are interested in - I know people who have got jobs by making contacts in the industry by doing this.
Good Luck!
