Victorian House; Front door frame colour

I live in a terrace of 16 large Victorian houses and I'm happy to say that the neighbourhood have been investing in smartening them up and preserving their character.

Most of the front doors are of similar original design but everyone has chosen their own colour: a single, primary(-ish) colour.  I've chosen green for my front door and I would say it blends in quite well with the theme.

My question is: From an aesthetic, colour blending-aware perspective, should the wooden door frame be the same colour as the door; or a different colour to set it off?

I've tried looking at other properties and there's no clear pattern that impresses me.  I'm not sure what the Victorians did; I think they usually used white (and maybe black) paint for nearly everything outside.

I would second that 'green' was a popular colour with the Victorians.

I love the Victorian era & my husband bought me an excellent architectural & interior design source book called ' Victorian House Style by Linda Osband. It features everything from front doors to kitchen sinks - I'm always looking through it.

The general theme in Victorian times was for a single colour on both door and frame. Mainly because there wasn't so much choice as today.
