I am aware there are some real movie aficionados out there who have seen or at least heard of this but may I wholeheartedly recommend for your pleasure
Werner Hezogs "The Enigma of Kasper Hauser"
I don't usually do foreign arty films as I am not left-wing, but this is incredibly moving and thought provoking.
The synopsis is fairly basic. A spastic man has been locked up in a dungeon for 40 or so years from birth and is set free to fend for himself. There is no history or records of the man, nobody has any idea who he is. Set in the early 1900's the scenery and filming are simply beautiful. There is not much chat really, so the German tongue and subtitles do not really grate for non-German linguists.
A five star movie for the cultured amongst us.
