I know what you mean about the irritant factor with the song The Tide Is High. It's a great song but I once had to sit an exam when someone in another room was blaring it out repeatedly and I couldn't concentrate at all. I just wanted to stand up in the exam room and shout SHUT UP! I can just imagine your colleague having the same effect...earplugs required...
