Why seek help on this board when you are going to stick stubbornly to your wrong interpretation? The past tense of a verb is certainly NOT a case, which, in grammatical terms, can only apply to nouns (and, rarely, to nouns and adjectives). The words "for example" in the clue refer to the fact that CAST is an "example" of a past tense. No thanks required.
