Thanks, folks. But, I still think it's a misprint. A case is a tense, and cast ain't! I'll just have to beg to differ.

You may beg to differ, but you are still wrong. Why seek help on this board when you are going to stick stubbornly to your wrong interpretation? The past tense of a verb is certainly NOT a case, which, in grammatical terms, can only apply to nouns (and, rarely, to nouns and adjectives). The words "for example" in the clue refer to the fact that CAST is an "example" of a past tense. No thanks required.
