Is there a mistake in the grid?

20 ac ' 1 over 8, like a fly by night' (5,2,2,3).

I have 'tight as an ?w? but dont think an owl or an ewe gets tight. Could it be 'tight as a newt' ? (5,2,1,4)??

Tight as an owl is valid. If you google it you can find references to that phrase (being drunk)
Apparently you can be drunk as the following forms of life;

tight as a goat, mink, newt, rat, tick, owl and even a boiled owl !
I think the letter count should be (5.2.1.4) and 'Tight as a Newt'
Hmm when did newts 'fly by night'?
