I could be stirring a hornets nest here but ... was going through old singles I'd bought and found my 7" single ... Startrekin' by The Firm ... Everyone has a demon buy in their collection ... Care to share it with the group?

Please let me know I'm not alone with my ill advised purchase(s) ...

This could run and run me thinks ..

now i look back i have far to many to count !

most obvious would have to be the chicken song by spitting image ! a similar time to yours !

i have so many records that i cannot figure out why i bought them !

I have a few by Stefan Dennis in my collection, which are very embarressing.  When I bought 1 the girl behind the counter didnt know who he was untill I said Paul from Neighbours, she still gave me a funny look.

Vanessa Paradis - Joe Le Taxi

Angry Anderson -  Suddenly

What the heck was I thinkin'....

I used to work for a Juke Box company and I was responsible for buying the new up and coming 'hits' to put on all of our juke boxes in pubs and clubs. as a perk of the job I have got quite a lot of 7" singles in my collection and more than a few are absolutely dreadful, I get them out occasionally and play them to the kids for a laugh. At least I didn't part with good money for them. I also have the Chicken Song, Orville's I wish I could fly and a record by Wonderdog! I'll stop there as they get really bad
i guess mine would be everything by Boney M... SHUDDERS!!!!
Cotton Eye Joe by Rednex.  I thought it was great at the time.

all these songs are classics!

what would our colelctions be without these gems?

Hamton the hamster!

Whigfield!

Westlife!

um..

Some classics there ... Il_billym .. Cotton Eyed Joe ... I'd forgotten about that gem! heh heh!

Adding to my own - I had The Twist by Chubby Checker and the Fat Boys ... and my brother reminded me that the worst record in his collection  was bought by me for his Christmas Present. Jive Bunny : The Album! Whoops. Surprisingly, he still talks to me!

My best mate at school went on to become a pusher of relaxing substances, a much-tattooed, red mohicanned punk with a hardman reputation. We used to buy each other singles for Christmas. In 1985 (?) I asked for Road to Nowhere by Talking Heads. I got Saving all my love for you by Whitney Houston. I bet he still is, too.....

Anything I was really embarrassed by I've got rid of, but I recall I did have The Chicken Song by Spitting Image.
Just to play fair, I shall also admit that I purchased Touch Me by Sam Fox, and the first 6 Shakin Stevens singles, but to be honest I'm not that embarrassed. I also bought the 12" of Geil by Bruce and Bongo on a school trip to Cologne. Anyone who has heard that will be embarrassed for me.
i can remember buying a copy of joe dolces shutt upa ya face. i now wish he had
I see your Joe Dolce's Shaddup Your Face and I raise you...Welcome Home by Peters and Lee. In mitigation, I would ask the court to take into account the fact that I was four years old at the time and had to get my nan to go into the shop and buy it for me. Bless. Going against my plea for clemency is my total lack of remorse - indeed, the whole nostalgia thing means I still have a soft spot for it even now.

Far more embarrassing to me is Tattva by Kula Shaker. I was a grown-up by then and old enough to know what I was doing. I cringe to think that for about five minutes I actually thought that pampered creature Cripsin Mills and his band were a decent group, until I realised they were actually a bunch of jumped-up, pseudo-hippy-mystical-bulls***, third-rate Beatles rip-off merchants. I think I'll stick to Peters and Lee, ta very much.

Glossopswift- i'm really laughing to myself having read your reply about Bruce and Bongo. I do feel extremely embarassed for you!

I was living in Holland at the time where the song was a big hit.

Hmmmm,

Aqua - Barbie Girl, Cartoons - Witch Doctor, Daphne and Celeste - ooh stick you, and many many more!

Oh the shame !

2 unlimited - Theres no limits !!!

i think i went one step tooo far when i wanted this song so badly (at the time) i actually went into virgin and ordered it!?! what the chashier must have been thinking is beyond embarassment.... Scatman John... but not the one we all know and love... his second song.. scatmans world. Is it true he died from scatting??
Well, I didn't actually buy it - I remember taping it off the radio, Clare & Friends: Horrible Being In Love When You're 8 and a half (cringe).
