do you mean the one in Palermo? I was there a couple of months ago. Basically you are looking at dead bodies, some well preserved, others less so. (Later preservation methods wer more succesful than earlier ones, but they all look rather unlifelike.) The people themselves didn't mind - in fact it became quite fashionable to have your loved ones embalmed, dress them in their best bib and tucker and visit them occasionally. Personally, I found it interesting, but other people travelling with me didn't fancy it at all and didn't go in. Up to you how you feel about corpses, really. They mostly date up to the end of the 19th century, so are not recently dead at all.
Sorry, can't help with prices. I think charter airlines go there reasonably cheaply but you'd probably have to stay a week.
