What a sickener. I could lose a lot of money if this ATOL thingy doesn't cough up. Has anyone ever tried to claim it? It's not one of those long winded things full of conditions is it?

It doesn't seem fair to me that companies can keep going to the 11th hour then say the're bankrupt. Should be a law to stop them from doing this with a safety cut off point so nobody is out of pocket or at least has some sort of warning. That's a lot of money to lose, time will tell I suppose how of if you get this back. They do say if you are a member of ATOL you could get some cover, just as well you went via this route. If you click on BBC Breakfast link (tried to get it up!) there is a number on there.
Hi Calvados, I've been watching this on the news this morning, feel so sorry for everyone affected! My son claimed through ATOL, took a few weeks, not long really. Obviously they need proof of everything. He has just got cheques through the post though for him and his mates deposit ( thats all he'd paid out ) I don't know 'your' circumstances, but I would say it is worthwhile going through the motions!! xxx
Its awful news Calvados, so sorry. We claimed a few years ago when a budget holiday firm went bust, we were fearful because we had paid by cheque but with copies of the cheque, bank statement and the paperwork we were lucky enough to be reimbursed and it took about 5/6 weeks. Think you should be protected more so if you paid by credit or debit card. Its still the fact your holiday plans are wrecked, I couldn't travel later that year even with the refund because couldnt get time off work. Hope it works out for you.
