what is the weirdest combination of food anyone has had whilst pregnant? with my pregnancy with my youngest daughter it was jif lemon on chips, my aunty whilst carring my cousin it was kippers and porrige

i have never been pregnant but my friend had cravings for fish fingers covered in nutella - URGH!!!!!

What actual causes the cravings? I mean why do you get them? Is it to do with hormones? Cuz lots of people say oh i crave chocolate at their time of the month - is it similar? Why such weird things??

with my first son it was pickled onion crisp and orange segments and with my 2nd son it was greggs sausage rolls dipped in lemon curd

Apparently 'pica' as it's known, commonly seen in pregnancy can indicate a deficiency of some type.
A old friend who is now 65 and has never had any children recently developed a craving for toothpaste. She was discovered to have a severe iron deficiency and it was cured. Maybe the hormones change the biochemistry and temporary cravings result. I too, just went off things !!

I didn't crave anything strange, just milkshake and later on, conference pears. I went right off chicken and most meat and even now, I still don't eat much of it.

My mum said with one of her pregnancies she would lick a raw sprout & dip it in raw porridge oats!! yuke yuke yuke!

She would have a dish beside her at work and dip her finger in and lick it!!!!!!!
