This usually happens when they make changes to the standard models, such as 1.3L, 1.6L etc. They may include a special trim (uphostery) to make the car look differently, along with maybe a different colour scheme/stickers etc.
For example, each year they have what is called a 'Model Year' (MY). This is the true year of the vehicle - it means the exact specification of the vehicle and not necessarily what year it was built (e.g. you could possibly buy a 2005 MY vehicle in late 2004). If one year they don't sell as many 1.3L models as they manufacturered then they will apply the changes/rename to make them sell.
Does that make sense? Sorry if I haven't explained it well enough.
If you're looking for exact specifications of the Encore etc., then I'm afraid I can't help you (and I'm sure not many could since Ford would change the spec each year to make them more attractive).
