Sentient Washing machine

My washing machine has recently decided to start putting indelible browny-red blotches on some items of cltohes that then won't wash out. It only puts it on, say a pair of shreddies, and the other pairs are all unmarked. Only now its started on my polo shirts for work as well.
What the hell is it?!

Cheers for that although I dont think its rust. the drum looks good as new. Its a Bosch and only a year or 2 old.
Its quite a bright browny red rather than orange brown like rust. And in odd blotches.
I do take the clothes out promptly too.
Most odd.

Then why is it only claiming one pair at a time?
They're M&S jobs as well, tres poche.

I agree with Zacsmaster. It is not the drum that is rusty, it is the bearing. When the seal starts to go it lets water into the bearing which washes out the grease. The bearing then starts to corrode and traces of rusty, greasy crap get into the clothes. It can only get worse. You will soon need a new bearing or a new washing machine as well as new shirts.

Oh dear. I hope not, my faith in bosch will be broken if so. I'll try not using red Daz and try green Bold and see if its related to that. But I would expect all the clothes to get marked if it was that.

How old is the machine? Even Bosch machines wear out eventually.

Erhh, Bosch arent great. Not the new ones anyway, not as good as they were.
is there anything that could rust around the seal? such as a paperclip or something?
