Does anyone know of websites that advertise offshore work in the engineering, electrical or welding trades, and are there any courses to be sat to qualify for working offshore ?.

There's a couple of websites I know of although I don't know if they are any use as I have never had to use them. Try www.work-offshore.com or www.rigzone.com to get you started. They cover all aspects from drilling to catering so you may find something. Also depending on your age and qualifications you could maybe get in with one of the big oil companies training schemes. It's all changed since I joined but I think a company called Cogent runs courses in conjunction with Aberdeen Technical College. You could also just try sending a CV to some of the contractor companies like Wood Group or Amec.
As regards courses you have to do survival and fire fighting courses which you can book yourself on but they are very expensive. Far better to try and get a job and let the company pay for you.
Finally I would also say to think about it carefully before starting as loads of people really hate it although there are many who don't mind but it can be a bit grim.
