magnolias

hello, bought myself a wonderful magnolia tree about 8 months ago, bloomed lovely, been looking after it well but suddenly the leaves seem to be getting old v quickly and dropping and some o them have white smudgey marks on the leaves also.... is it dying or just curling up for winter? thanx

Unless you have an evergreen variety it is just doing what is should do and dropping its leaves for the winter. The white marks are probably mildew but that is not an issue as the leaves will drop off anyway.
