Going back to work

Hi everyone, i am trying to get back into work after having a baby and i know that the government help towards child care to a registered carer. I dont think i could trust leaving my child with anyone, and was wondering if anyone knew if my mum was to give up work to care for my child (which she would love to do), would the government pay her as the carer or would they only pay for a registered carer?

they will not pay your mom unless she registers as a childminder. i looked into this as my mom was willing to have mine. it is quite simple to become a registered childminder and i believe it dont cost alot. i think you have to do a first aid course and they come and check your house. could you not look at putting your mom through this course and then the government will pay her as a carer

i understand where you are coming from i was the same with my little girl.
i didnt want anyone having her except me! i didnt wanna go back to work!

But when she started nursery she loved it and by the time she was 3 she was writing her own name and so much more advanced then other kids that dont experience any kind of childcare.

All i wanted to do was wrap her up away from the world but kids need to socialise with other kids.
They learn so much from each other, obviously depends on the childs age, my daughter was 2 when she started which is a good age, any younger i would have been worried but they take to new surrounding so well from an early age.
Maybe just do 1-2 days a week in childcare and the rest with your mum?

If money isnt an issue i would make appointments with your local nuserys, you may be suprised at what you find,

it will do your child the world of good.

i used to struggle to feed my little girl she was so picky!! i used to dread meals times, when she started nursery and was sitting round the table with other kids she has no problem eating and even trying new foods.

I agree with lozzylou but as well as being registered she must offer places to other children as well, not just offer childcare for her grandchild.
It's hard when you leave them to go back to work when they are so tiny and v important to leave them with someone you are comfortable with.
Hope all works out ok.

She will be registered as a childminder so therefore will be able to offer childcare to others however it is entirely up to her whether she would only look after your baby or not.

Thanks for all your answers. Im glad im not the only one who wants to keep my child wrapped in cotton wool lol!
I will look into getting him somehwere for a days a week maybe to see how he likes it. he loves other kids so should have a great time, once i get over the nightmare of leaving him lol!
