Removing acrylic paint from solid beech.

I have a butchers trolley made from solid beech, cost a fortune and took me ages to save up for it....my daughters (in a fit at each other) have splashed acrylic paint all over it, and we can't get it off. Any ideas what we can use, without risking damaging the finish of the wood. I oil it regularly, so the wood is in tip top condition. Have spoken to the place we bought it, but they don't have any ideas. We have tried, water, soap, and gently rubbing with a soft scourer, but have had no luck....please, please can someone help.

Believe it or not, WD 40 can do many things (.i.e. removing paint accidently splashed on cars!) so you could give this a try. It's great for cleaning down the glass, or plastic, of shower screens also. Hope this helps!

I would think WD40 would soak into the wood and leave a stain myself, surgical spirit may work with less chance of leaving a stain.

But.....

as wood is porous and the paint will have soaked into it a little you may have no choice but sand it back and then refinish the wood

if not too large an area,v. fine steel wool followed by a light waxing,for obstinate spots of paint a soft scraper made out of a piece of wood such as a lolly stick,On a well oiled surface it is unlikely to have bonded well.
You could also try on a inconspicuous area with meths as this will dissolve emusion paint.

The best way to remove stains from bare wood is to use a steel scraper,(not a paint scraper or wallpaper scraper).The steel scraper is a flat piece of steel that removes a very thin layer of wood from the surface,You would need to take a layer off the whole block so as not to form a hollow.If you can't obtain a wood scraper you can use a piece of glass, but cover all but a thin edge with duct tape in case it breaks when you are using it.Draw it(the scraper or glass) towards you the full length of the block in the direction of the grain being careful not to dig in with the corners. The size of the scraper should be about 4"x3" and the edges should be square not bevelled.GOOD LUCK.
