Fibrous sarcoma
Hi, sorry if this is the second post but I can't seem to find my original....
My 14yo cat was diagnosed with an inoperable fibrous sarcoma, its about 7 inches long and fast growing - the vet thinks its developed in about 4 weeks. She has said there is nothing to do but spoil him and wait, he doesn't seem to be in pain and is eating [a little but often], moving about [and playing] albeit slowly...
I was hoping somebody might know something about this type of cancer in felines, how long has he got, what can I do to make his life easier or more comfortable, I'm scared to pick him up as its all around his pelvic area, abdomen and back....will I know when he's ready to go?
Any advice would be really appreciated.....
many thanks...Jo & Tass

I don't know anything about this particular condition but I have had cats all my life and have been in a similar position to you. You have had your cat a long time and know him well so you will notice changes in his behaviour. Obviously if he is in pain you will need to act but otherwise as long as he has some quality of life and you can still make a fuss of him and let him know you love him he should be happy enough. However if his quality of life changes for the worse then for his sake you will have to let him go. I had a cat with cancer a couple of years back and the vet told me I would know when the time was right and I did. It is a hard decision but you obviously love your cat and will do the right thing for him when the time comes. My thoughts are with you.

hello your question really touched me. i know how you feel because i have not long lost my cat of 16 years old. he had a thrombosis. all i can suggest is that you talk to him and reassure him let him know you are there for him and that you love him.
its not an easy time and if i can help you in anyway as i received a lot of help and support from people when Tinker passed so suddenly please let me know.
remember that you will meet him again at Rainbow Bridge.
take care xxx

Sorry to hear about your cat. I lost my very beloved cat back in March to a different illness and was confused about when the time would be right to say goodbye. I was told I would know... but I couldn't see how I would know... but when the time came for her to go... she told me... you could see she didn't want to be with us anymore and she looked like life was just too much to bear. When the pain of keeping them becomes greater than the pain of saying goodbye - that is the time to summon up all your love and let them go. Many of us know how you feel and wish you strength x
Hi all,
I wanted to let you know that my cat passed away today .... although he didn't seem to be in any great pain, he wasn't eating and mostly he just wanted to sleep under the castor oil plant in the garden ... I didn't want him to die in pain so chose today to let him go.
I miss him so much already :'( thanku for all your words of support, x

Hi BuckyKat,I'm soo sorry to hear your news, but, you did the best and kindest thing for him by not waiting until he was really unhappy. You showed real love there. I understand how devastated you are,cos I lost my Yasmin in February, due to kidney failure. Let yourself cry as much as you want, and, talk away about him . We're all really lucky to have our gorgeous animals and it's only cos we love them so much, and they us,that it hurts so badly when we lose them. xx
Dear Bucky Cat
I am so sorry to hear your sad news. I am actually crying with you. I know just how you feel because I lost my cat 5 weeks ago and it was so sudden. I still cry buckets but I have had so much love and reassurance given to me that he is in heaven. it helps a bit but just take one day at a time thats what I do.
someone told me to have his photo about and still talk to him. i made a little memorial garden for Tinker and every morning I go and have a chat with him in his garden which is under a bush he used to lay in.
it is a difficult time and I will send you a little prayer tonight for peace. I will also light a candle for you and your lovely cat.
xxxx

All of your responses have made me cry, but in a good way I promise, its nice to know that people care about me and about him...
I was with him when he went, I am still crying now but I know he is at peace and didn't have to face the worst of his illness, I will light a candle for him and hope that he was well met where ever he went...I will never forget him, he is everywhere in my home and in my heart ..
...nor the kindness you have all shown me ...

Hi Jan, thanks for your message & your thoughts,
I feel like I miss him as much now as I did two weeks ago but I think I cry less :o/ I picked up his ashes and have decided to scatter them somewhere there are lots of flowers, he liked flowers and was always covered in pollen ...
you are right about the emptyness though, its funny the things you miss isn't it ...
take care yourself, xx
