Hi all

I have recently started the LPC and have a really simple piece of non-assessed homework. I am completely OK with the content but, need a little bit of advice re. the formalities.

I have a scenario and have read it and fully understand it. I have to produce an internal file memorandum advising my training principal of my opinion on a file.

What is the protocol for lanuage and formalities?

Formal, informal but professional??

I know that it will be structured less formally than a client care or advice letter, but don't know how informal.

( NB Have not been given any relevant material to look at, hence my question)

I know we all hate law studes asking q's, but I only need a teeny weeny bit of help.

For an internal memo, make sure you have the proper headings, dates and file reference quoted in the heading. I would start it with something like "Further to your memo of ____ requesting me to researh ________, i have carried out that research and set out below my findings". Keep it to the point and don't ramble about things that a supervising partner won't need or want to know. If you want to quote any obvious laws, say something like, "as you know, the ___ Act states that ____". (means you can put in the obvious to beef up your answer if you need to).
